How to Find Low-Competition WordPress Gig Ideas on Fiverr?

Struggling to land your first order on Fiverr as a WordPress freelancer? You’re not alone. The “trick” is to target low-competition keywords with search demand. This is the approach that helped me become a Level 2 seller on Fiverr.

In this post, I will share 4 ways to find low-competition keywords with business opportunities.

Table of Contents

What are Low-Competition Keywords?

Low-competition keywords refer to search terms that have relatively low search results. In Fiverr, the search results are gigs.

To get orders on Fiverr, your gig needs to rank higher for your niche keywords. WordPress is the niche for this post. Popular keywords in this niche like “WordPress website,” “business website,” and “ecommerce website” are highly competitive.

As a new seller, it’s rare to rank in the top 10 or even on the first page because there are already top-rated and level 2 sellers dominating the first page.

To get orders as a newbie, you need to target keywords that people are searching for but have less competition. Keywords with fewer than 500-600 gigs can be considered low-competition.

With fewer gigs, the chance of you ranking on the first page is higher if you create the gig relatively well compared to others.

So, how do you find these low-competition keywords? Keywords are strange things. For the same service, buyers can search using different keywords. For example, instead of “WordPress ecommerce website,” some might search for “WooCommerce store” or “WooCommerce website.” Both are the same service but have different search results and competition levels.

Let’s explore some more ways to find keywords.

Many buyers search on Fiverr using WordPress theme names that they may have bought or want to use. You can create gigs targeting these themes. The popular themes are likely to be what buyers are searching for on Fiverr.

If you follow WordPress content, you may know popular theme names like Avada, BeTheme, Salient, Divi, etc. You can also check ThemeForest to know the recent popular themes. Additionally, look on YouTube to see which WordPress themes creators are promoting.

I suggest combining multiple theme names so that you rank for more keywords.

You can also organize your gigs by category, like targeting blog themes such as Newspaper theme, Soledad, ReHub, etc., or LMS themes like WPLMS, Eduma, etc. You get the idea.

For example:

  • I will customize Soledad, The7, Rehub, and Newspaper themes.
  • I will create an LMS website using WPLMS theme.

It’s a similar strategy to targeting themes, but there are fewer opportunities because developers who customize themes often set up the plugins as well.

However, sometimes buyers need to add plugins to existing websites for new features. Not all plugins will have search demand, so you need to think feature-wise. Buyers may need help setting up plugins for ecommerce, LMS, membership, email, and contact form plugins.

Because these plugins are advanced and require proper setup. Popular plugins include WooCommerce, LearnDash, Membership Pro, and Yoast. Creating forms is also a good niche. You can target popular contact form plugins like Gravity Forms, Ninja Forms, and WPForms.

For example:

  • I will set up LearnDash/WooCommerce/Yoast plugin.
  • I will create forms using Gravity Forms, Ninja Forms, or WPForms plugins.

#3 Target Niche Sites

Targeting niche sites means instead of just creating a gig like “I will create a WordPress website,” you create “I will create a restaurant website using WordPress.” This way, you can cut the competition and focus on a specific type of website. There are many ways to find these niche ideas.

One of my favorite ways is looking at YouTube. Some WordPress content creators publish tutorials on creating websites for various industries, like job posting websites, course websites, logistics websites, etc. You can learn new stuff and find niche ideas.

Also, you can think of different professions and add the word “website” at the end, like doctor website, plumber website, contractor website, etc. You can also combine multiple professions.

For example:

  • I will create a doctor, medical, and dentist website.
  • I will create a plumber, electrician, and contractor website.

#4 Join Seller Plus Program

Fiverr Seller Plus is a paid program for sellers that gives you access to a few benefits, along with a keyword research tool. This tool is helpful to find low-competition keywords. You can filter keywords by search volume and ranking difficulty.

This program costs $19 per month. I don’t recommend buying it. As a new seller, the above three methods should be enough for you. But if you want an easier path, you can buy it for one month and do the keyword research.

Validate Keywords

Not all low-competition keywords are good. Sometimes, you may find many keywords that seem good, but they actually don’t have any search demand. So, you have to validate your keyword before creating a gig on it.

There’s no direct way to see search demand except with a premium keyword research tool. However, one way is to see the search result gigs’ reviews. Scan the first ten gigs and see if they have any orders in the queue or have worked on any projects in the last month. This way, you get a rough idea.

These low-competition keywords will not give you one order every day. Since they have mid-low demand, you have to be patient.

Create The Best Gig

You will get orders if your gig is better than others. Even if you are ranking number one, but your gig is not appealing to buyers, you won’t get orders. So, as important as keyword research is, creating the gig properly is crucial. Presentation is key.
